On 23 September 2011, from 16.00 – 16.40 hrs., Ambassador Marut Jitpatima accompanied by Mr. Panutat Yodkaew, Second Secretary, paid a call on H.E. Mr. Salman Bashir, Foreign Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and presented him a cheque amounting to US$ 30,000.- donated by the Royal Thai Government to the Government of Pakistan as a humanitarian assistance to the flood victims in the South of Pakistan.  

 

On this occasion, Ambassador Jitpatima, expressed, on behalf of the government and people of Thailand, heartfelt sympathies to the  tragic loss of  lives and widespread destruction of properties in the South of Pakistan especially in the Sindh Province,  caused by the devastating flood. Upon receipt of the cheque, H.E. Mr. Bashir expressed, on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, thanks and appreciation to the government and people of Thailand for the generous offer of humanitarian assistance.  He then talked briefly on the flood situation which was caused by torrential rains and floods. He also said that Pakistan considered Thailand as one of the closest friends in East Asia and ASEAN and praised Thailand for its being consistent in showing solidarity and support to Pakistani government and people during time of crisis.

 

During the flood crisis of last year, the government of Thailand, Royal family, and Thai general public donated nearly US$ 800,000.-  and 20,000 tons of Thai rice worth US$ 14,000,000.- to the flood victims through the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund – 2010 and the National Disaster Management Authority.
